Still following my mother's advice, I am taking painting lessons.
First is the photograph handed out in class. I did not photograph the work after the first and second classes.
After the first class, a basic painted drawing was in place and most of the color blocks were laid down. After the second class, the backdrop was wonderful, but the table needed to be defined more. Adding in darks to the stems and shadows helped to balance out the painting. The second photo is the painting after three classes. I ruined the backdrop by adding paint that was too muddied down, but the painting was better overall.
The third photo shows the work after four classes. I like the lightened shadow better and the cleaning up of the stems. The apples had been my main concern, and the backdrop. The apples went from looking like paper mache to looking juicy. Although I like the looseness of the blooms, I may add in some definition through the negative space.
I owe you a photo of my progress after Pam Coulter's last class and before Trisha Adams workshop and Bob Burridge's workshop. Then I can fix it up some more. I want to anchor the items on the table a bit more. I think the blooms will stay loose and fluffy.
